10-Time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Champion Donny Schatz Reps Sage Fruit for Skagit Event
INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 1, 2023) – Race fans may notice that 10-Time World of Outlaws (WoO) NOS Energy Sprint Car Series Champion Donny Schatz has a different look this weekend as he competes in the Sage Fruit Skagit Nationals in Alger, WA. Paying tribute to racing partner Sage Fruit’s home state base, the driver of No. 15 will represent the brand with a special firesuit for the Aug. 31 – Sept. 2 event.
In addition to the Washington state trio of events being dubbed the Sage Fruit Skagit Nationals, the Yakima, WA based brand will offer race fans attending the races the opportunity to pick up free apples and to learn more about the brand. Sage Fruit is located in the heart of the Pacific Northwest and the brand’s growers have been serving customers with apples, pears and cherries for multiple generations.
Race fans can also register for a chance to win a custom Sage Fruit/Tony Stewart Racing/Donny Schatz cornhole set autographed by both Stewart & Schatz. Schatz posted two Top-Three finish and two Top-10 finishes in three nights at the 3/10-mile, high-banked oval in the 2022 Sage Fruit Skagit Nationals event. He earned his first career WoO victory at the facility on Aug. 31, 2013 and followed up in 2014 with a pair of wins at the track on Aug. 29 – 30, 2014.
The Sage Fruit Skagit Nationals continues the 2023 season of money as one driver will have the chance to take home more than $45,000 between the three nights of Racing (Thursday to Saturday) with Thursday and Friday’s events paying $10,000 to win and Saturday’s finale at Skagit Speedway paying $26,000 to win.
The Sage Fruit Skagit Nationals is the WoO Series’ first stop on the West Coast for the Fall Swing. Teams will compete three nights at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., on Aug. 31 – Sept. 2 before making their way south to Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., on Monday, Sept. 4. The series will then head to California for the first of two weeks of competition in the Golden State.
Gates are scheduled to open at 5 p.m. PDT daily for the Sage Fruit Skagit Nationals event, with WoO hotlaps and qualifying to begin at 6:30 p.m. All three nights of racing action can be streamed live via DIRTvision at www.dirtvision.com with coverage slated to begin nightly at 9:15 p.m. EDT.
