BROWNSBURG, Ind. (April 25, 2022) – Always an elbows-up affair at the southern Indiana bullring, Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing salvaged a 12th-place score at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Indiana, on Saturday, April 23, recovering after contact during a single-file restart nearly sent the ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion backwards through the infield. Schatz started eighth on Tri-State’s feature grid, earning his spot by way of third-place finish during heat race competition.
Before the restart contact with 13-to-go, Schatz was a surefire top-ten threat, battling between eighth and tenth consistently.
Schatz, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, Advance Auto Parts, Carquest, Ford Motor Company, Ford Performance, Curb Records, Sage Fruit, Digital Ally, Absolute Automation and Security, Hunt Brothers Pizza, Elliott’s Custom Trailers and Carts, No. 15 sprint car, was scheduled to make two starts during the recent weekend, but Mother Nature stepped in and interfered yet again, this time forcing the cancellation of his Tri-City Speedway appearance set for Friday, April 22.
Despite ultimately missing the top-ten in Haubstadt, the Fargo, North Dakota, native has been productive with the Greatest Show On Dirt. In 15 starts, the ten-time champion has accumulated ten top-ten finishes, four of which within the top-five. Schatz has one victory on the season, occurring in the World of Outlaws season opener at Volusia Speedway Park in DeLeon Springs, Florida.
