2020 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Championship Standings | FINAL: 7274 points | Third (70-points behind championship winner, Brad Sweet)
BROWNSBURG, Ind. (November 9, 2020) – The 2020 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series season is officially complete, and although Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz fell just short of attaining an eleventh Series championship, the driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing sprint car went on to finish third in the final title chase, ending the 54-race campaign just 70 points shy of the overall goal.
Schatz, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Advance Professional/Carquest Auto Parts/Technet Professional Automotive Service/Ford Performance/Mobil 1/Sage Fruit/Curb Records/Absolute Automation & Security/Hunt Brothers Pizza/Digital Ally/J&J Auto Racing/No. 15 sprint car, concluded the 2020 WoO season with a two-day visit to The Dirt Track at Charlotte, just north of Charlotte, North Carolina, on Friday and Saturday, November 6-7. The season-ending Last Call featured back-to-back programs with each awarding a $12,000 top prize.
By the time the weekend dust settled, Schatz found himself with a pair of top-ten outcomes, kicking things off with an impressive rally from 12th to finish third on Friday. Schatz’ rally commenced right from the drop of the green, advancing five positions to seventh with only five laps in the books. Soon enough, Schatz powered ahead to create a four-car battle for the lead, this time racing head-to-head with David Gravel, Carson Macedo and Sheldon Haudenschild.
After working his way around Macedo to secure third with nine laps remaining, the new aim was on Haudenschild. Schatz was able to pressure the Wooster, Ohio-native and show him a nose with five laps to go, but Haudenschild persevered and powered ahead; Schatz was forced to settle for third.
Schatz illustrated another passing display during the Last Call finale on Saturday, eventually climbing ahead from ninth to secure sixth. Although unable to accomplish a weekend podium sweep, the result was Schatz’ 43rd top-ten finish of the 2020 WoO campaign.
Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing will enter the off-season with five victories to their credit in 2020, two of which combining for a total winner’s share equaling $100,000; the $25,000 Silver Cup at Lernerville Speedway and the $75,000 National Open at Williams Grove Speedway.
In addition to being the largest paying event in Williams Grove history, the 2020 National Open was the season’s highest paying sprint car program in the United States.
