BROWNSBURG, Ind. (November 4, 2019) – Although his Thursday night visit to Texas Motor Speedway ended short of main event competition, forced to retire during A-main qualifier action after a front wheel came apart from the car, ‘Smoke’ Tony Stewart and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing persevered in a big way and rallied to finish on the podium the following evening.
Stewart was winning his respective A-main qualifier when the front-end trouble occurred.
Smoke, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Rush Truck Centers/Toco Warranty/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/Absolute Automation & Security/No. 14 sprint car, went on to finish third during the Tony Stewart presents the Vankor Texas Sprint Car Nationals finale on Friday, November 1; he started in the exact same position.
Despite finishing two spots shy of the ultimate goal, Stewart was in a position to capitalize the entire distance, actually leading laps 20-22 before losing command to eventual winner, Scott Bogucki, on lap 23.
Sanctioned by the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS), Smoke kicked-off Friday evening with a third place finish during his respective heat race, followed by a victory during the evening’s second A-main qualifier.
“It was great to get back to Texas,” Tony Stewart noted, a ten-time sprint car winner in 2019 who was also inducted into the Texas Motorsports Hall of Fame during the recent weekend. “I think we had the speed necessary to be competitive on Thursday, but mechanical issues happen. Lucky for me, I have a team that never gives up. We were able to pick up right where we left off.”
Tony Stewart’s upcoming plans remain uncertain. Fans should stay alert online, as well as on social media, for any updates regarding Smoke’s sprint car agenda.
