2019 World of Outlaws Championship Standings: 2nd – 9146 points (14 points behind Brad Sweet)
BROWNSBURG, Ind. (October 7, 2019) – Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz did not add another National Open title to his resume, but the ten-time and defending World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion did accomplish a pair of podium performances during his trip to Williams Grove Speedway during the recent weekend, simultaneously chopping away at Brad Sweet’s championship lead that entered the weekend at 40 points, but now sits at 14. Impressive enough, Schatz did so with the new FPS 410 power plant under the hood.
Schatz, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Toco Warranty/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/Absolute Automation & Security/No. 15 sprint car, finished third during each of his Williams Grove Speedway starts over National Open weekend, highlighting both outcomes with a rally from eighth to third during the $65,000-to-win finale on Saturday, October 5.
A second place finish during heat race action on Friday, as well as a heat race victory on Saturday, paved the way to his respective podium runs.
“It was a consistent weekend for our team. My guys were able to give me a great race car both nights,” Donny Schatz said, who owns five National Open titles at Williams Grove Speedway. “The championship is always in the back of your mind. We are out here to win races. If we accomplish that, the championship will come on its own.”
A pair of stops in the Hoosier State stand ahead for Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing including an annual visit to the legendary Terre Haute Action Track on Saturday, October 12. The weekend will conclude on the highbanks of Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Indiana, on Sunday, October 13.
Schatz finished second during his 2018 visit to Terre Haute, the product of a charge from the outside of row six. Incidentally, a charge from row six resulted in Schatz’ most recent fifth place outcome at Tri-State Speedway, also in 2018.
