BROWNSBURG, Ind. (September 4, 2018) – Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz ended his visit to Washington over Labor Day weekend on a high note, not only winning his fourth main event in five starts at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., but leading every lap to do so.
For Schatz, the victory bumped his season total to 18 with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, now with an awe-inspiring 51 top-ten finishes in 53 World of Outlaws starts. In addition, the Labor Day victory helped the nine-time and defending World of Outlaws champion maintain his championship lead by 246 markers over Kasey Kahne Racing’s Brad Sweet.
“We are out here to win races, and fortunately we’ve been able to do that,” Donny Schatz explained, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Textron Off Road/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/No. 15 sprint car. “We kept getting better and better as the weekend progressed. I owe all of that to my team. Hopefully we can keep the wins coming as we move further south into Oregon and California.”
Donny Schatz kicked-off his long, holiday weekend with action at the Skagit Speedway in Burlington, Wash., on Friday and Saturday, August 31 & September 1. Nearly ending the two-day Outlaw Energy Showdown with a trip to victory lane, Schatz highlighted his Skagit Speedway appearance with a runner-up finish on Saturday, nearly catching race leader, Daryn Pittman, in the closing circuits before drifting off the edge of the racing surface. Only losing one spot in the mishap, Schatz recovered in a hurry and battled back to finish second, bettering Friday’s A-main result by four positions; finishing sixth after starting on the outside of row five.
Only padding his recent statistics in the Evergreen State, Schatz was absolutely dominate on Monday evening at Grays Harbor Raceway and nearly swept the entire World of Outlaws program. After finishing second during his respective heat race, Schatz drove on to win the evening’s dash followed by an A-main victory, leading all 30 circuits from start to finish.
Donny Schatz will continue his 2018 World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series campaign with three starts in four days beginning with a mid-week visit to Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore., on Wednesday, September 5. Action will resume on Friday and Saturday, September 7 & 8, with the Gold Cup Race of Champions at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California.
